Langston Hughes Poetry Reading Returns
The MAC's fourth Langston Hughes Community Poetry Reading will feature poets, educators, artists, students and members of the community celebrating the legacy of the renowned African American poet with readings from Hughes' voluminous body of work. James Coleman, professor emeritus and chair of the humanities department at Three Rivers Community College, fiction writer and NEA Fellowship Recipient will give the keynote address. Langston Hughes came into prominence during the Harlem Renaissance period of the 1920's. His work dealt with issues related to the culture and experiences of African Americans. We look forward to welcoming you as we celebrate the life of a man whose work remains as relevant today as the day it was written.

Hidden Treasures, Film Screening
Introduction and Post-Film Discussion & Reception with Director, Alexandra Isles
Every year millions of people visit the Metropolitan Museum, but how many are able to find the secrets and powers hidden in the works of art? Museum staff, who spend their days, and sometimes their nights, restoring, guarding, moving, cleaning and teaching about the art, reveal some of the magic they have discovered. Their stories include a wish-granting statue, a sword with a secret compartment, a time traveling melody, a portrait that has become a trusted mentor, a famous landscape with an unexpected population, and rooms and objects that brought joy to a dying woman. The fourteen interviews in the film include personal stories about Rembrandt’s Self-Portrait, Ingres’s Princess de Broglie, illuminated Medieval manuscripts, and much more.
"One of the many virtues of "Hidden Treasures" is that the people who are discussing works of art in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art have a deeply personal relationship with these works. As a result, their comments have a depth, even a mystical quality that heightens our own understanding of the many dimensions that make these objects worthy of inclusion in this great institution."

Join fellow art trekkers from the MAC and Lyman Allyn Art Museum to explore two New York City gems: The Cloisters and Metropolitan Museum of Art.
