Lisa Starr, Poet Laureate of Rhode Island
Regional Student Poets Laureate

Lisa Starr was recently named State Poet Laureate of Rhode Island. She is also the founder and Director of the Block Island Poetry Project, a nationally acclaimed conference of poets, educators, musicians, and writers. A two-time recipient of the Rhode Island Poetry Fellowship, and twice winner of the Nancy Potter Prize for fiction, Ms. Starr has published two highly regarded books of poems, This Place Here (2001) and Days of Dogs and Driftwood (1993). A graduate of Ledyard High and the University of Rhode Island, Ms.
Starr is now the proprietor of The Hygeia House, an inn on Block Island.
